Creative Industries Master’s Programme
Recent developments in technologies have led to dramatic changes in the traditional forms of journalism, cinema, and television. The form, dramaturgy, and modes of dissemination of media have all changed drastically, resulting in new platforms, from YouTube channels and mobile phone television to a range of other web platforms. Importantly, all of these new mobile forms are multimedial. However, educational institutions have not always reacted dynamically to these quick changes in media format. This SAS Master’s Programme will bridge this gap, preparing workers for a host of new and emerging creative industries.
The real innovation of this master’s programme will be preparing students to become universal specialists in the field of new media, allowing them to create successful media content while mastering the ever-changing specifics of audiovisual work. Immersing participants in the media development process, the programme will build their professional skills at the same time as encouraging them to reflect on their broader application and importance. Accordingly, graduates will gain baseline competencies and abilities that will set them up for future study in a wide range of fields, as well as for diverse avenues of employment.
The programme will focus on a number of creative industries, all of them connected with media production:
- Video-content based on multimedia platforms
- Digital graphic design
- Film and video production
- All types of television production, both for traditional and digital fields
- Internet television
- Media critiques
The basis of this programme is multidisciplinary, and it will take a cross-media approach. Major objectives of the programme include preparing creative authors, film directors, editors, filmmakers and other specialists to command not only new technologies, but also the logical principles of business, law and the creative economy.
In addition, the programme will also prepare graduates for broader fields of work, including: communication media; television broadcasting companies; radio broadcasters; media organizations producing interactive TV shows; telemovies and cinema; editors offices for media portals; social media; and scientific and educational companies.
The programme includes three main sections: «Bases», «Practice», and «Theory».
The first section covers the skills involved in digital shooting and digital postproduction, web design, computer animation, visual effects, 3D, film editing in live view mode, management organization, the issue of rights in the media field, and media and advertising economics, including Self-presentation, Self-marketing, and Pitching.
The “Theory” section consists of studying media history and media theory, media analysis, dramaturgy (linear and nonlinear), social science, and media philosophy.
The “Practice” section will build skills for creating content in various multimedia, including multimedia journalism, cinema, broadcasting, and developing content for web platforms.
Teaching methods: The programme will consist of lectures, seminars, and work in project teams, as well as workshops with producers, journalists, filmmakers and authors who are actively working in the field of media.
